Killzone II Review

Years after the original release (albeit via a demi-sequel, only available on the PSP) Guerilla Games have finally produced a successor to its critically acclaimed shooter “Killzone”.
In Killzone 2, you (the allies) are once again pitted against the “Helghast” (who, by the way, are a frightful bunch: human kind’s unfortunate outcasts who’ve become Nazis for some reason) in an all singing, all dancing ode to explosions and gore.
The game has received a lot of criticism for its relatively weak storyline, and foul-mouthed co-stars. Many critics say you could quite comfortably play the levels in a random order and find no particular fault with what was going on.
I won’t refute or confirm these claims, because a strong storyline definitely wasn’t the objective here. Graphically, this game is a tour-de-force, with seemingly hundreds of characters on-screen at any on time, and a plethora of things being blown up at random. The engine used to create such environments will definitely open the doors for other developers to do new and amazing things with PS3 gaming from now on. The AI is also extremely slick, and the computer controlled Helghast never cease to amaze with their tactical approach and tendency to flank while you’re not looking.
Another thing not to be overlooked is the excellent online multiplayer feature, which allows you to play on either side of the conflict (usually with the same, gory outcome) against a jury of your peers who will undoubtedly want you dead. Nothing like being pelted with a rain of bullets and watching your cover slowly fall to pieces. Enjoy!
